How often should I change my oil?

There is a lot of information out there about when it is appropriate to change your oil. It will ultimately come down to how often you drive around Franklin. If you have a short commute, your oil's lifespan will be longer as you aren't going through it as fast in comparison to someone who drives a longer commute.

If you have an older car, this is also something to take into consideration as older car's oil has a life span of about three months when you drive 3,000 miles in this time. But newer cars have been redesigned to get you further. Many newer cars have an oil lifespan of 5,000, 7,500 and even 10,000 miles.

The type of engine oil, the age and make of your vehicle and driving habits all dictate when to change engine oil. Typical driving habits and drivers that own a 2008 and newer models should change their oil every 7,500 miles or on average six months, whichever comes first.

Drivers with less typical driving habits in Sylva or Waynesville should change their oil every 5,000 miles, and every 3,000 miles or three months for cars 2007 and older. Less typical driving habits would include frequent off-road driving or driving in dusty conditions, towing or carrying large loads, excessive idling or driving at low speeds for long distances.
